When the Sarpy Area Arts Council was formed, it facilitated several community feedback sessions to understand the needs of the community. Through these sessions all the communities expressed a desire to have an event that showcases the wide variety of art and artists for the community.   The Arts Alive event is an opportunity for the communities in Sarpy County, Bellevue, La Vista, Gretna, Papillion, and Springfield to participate and actively engage in the creation of arts. The event showcases the talents of painters, photographers, sculptors, potters, and glass artists showing how they do their artwork. It gives the attendees first hand experience of the decisions and movements artists use when creating their art. There are singers, actors, and dancers performing during the event, showcasing the talents of performing artists in the community. By bringing attendees into the work of artists and providing them a platform to understand the arts, it enables the participants to discuss and gain a better appreciation for what it takes to create art.

The event also gives an opportunity for attendees of all ages to participate in different aspects of the arts. From having face painting and artist trading cards for children, to artist booths displaying, demonstrating, and selling their artwork, and performances by area amateur and professional performance groups, the event serves a wide community need to bring together people.

Arts Alive! 2009 Sponsors included the Sarpy Area Arts Council, Shadow Lake Towne Center, Nebraska Brewing Company, Omaha Venture Group, Shadow Lake Development, Sarpy County Visitors Committee, Midlands Community Foundation, Nebraska Arts Council, La Vista Community Foundation, and Papillion Community Foundation.
